Since 1993

Our History

The "new" James Twp Public Library rose from the ashes of a devastating fire in 2001 which destroyed the building and contents. Our new facility was made possible by the generosity of the Elk Lake Masonic Hall Corporation, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and numerous private and corporate donations.

The ribbon cutting for the new facility was in March 2003. Our bright, spacious Library is 1800 square feet and home to our collection of approximately 10,000 books, magazines, videos and DVD's. Our CAP site has 10 public access computers and we also have a Children's Computer area with fun and educational games. As well as books, DVD's and magazines, we offer photocopying, faxing, printing, laminating and we are able to do interlibrary loans.
We have a 3D printer for use.
We also offer many programs such as Ancestry, MANGO & OverDrive to name a few.

The James Twp Public Library is a community partner. The Library is a designated evacuation point in the case of an emergency. Our Library offers the Summer Reading Programme, we will usually offer a March Break programme and of course our very popular Christmas Party. This year we will be asking our patrons to donate a non-perishable good.

If the weather permits we will again offer an Easter Egg hunt for the children.
